How long does a reed diffuser last (and how to make it last longer)

A reed diffuser can scent a room for weeks. Exactly how long depends on a few factors worth knowing.

It is one of the most common questions from those purchasing their first diffuser: how long will it last? The honest answer is that it depends, but on simple elements that are easy to control.

Estimated duration

A 200 ml diffuser such as the Classic VORNX has an estimated lifespan of 8–10 weeks. This is an average figure: the same diffuser may last longer in a cool room with fewer reeds, or less in a warm, ventilated space with all the reeds inserted.

The factors that matter

The number of reeds comes first: more reeds mean more evaporation surface, therefore a stronger fragrance and a shorter lifespan. Then there is temperature: near a radiator or in direct sunlight, the fragrance evaporates more quickly. Finally, air circulation: drafts and frequently open windows disperse the scent and accelerate consumption.

How to make it last longer

Start with half the reeds and add more only if the room requires it. Place the diffuser away from heat sources, in a passage area but not in a direct draft. Turn the reeds once a week, not every day: they revive diffusion, but turning them too often causes the fragrance to be consumed more quickly.

When to replace the reeds

Over time, the reeds become saturated and absorb less. If the fragrance seems to fade while there is still liquid in the bottle, it is time to replace them.

Diffuser or candle?

The diffuser works continuously and without a flame, ideal for entryways, bathrooms, and transitional spaces. A candle creates a moment and an atmosphere. Many use them together, in the same fragrance.

How long does a 200 ml diffuser last?

On average 8–10 weeks, depending on the number of reeds, the temperature, and ventilation.

How often should the reeds be turned?

About once a week.
